Table of Contents

Sometimes the last thing we think about in design, is the ceiling. Well, the fact that you’re searching for the best ceiling beam ideas, means you’re in the right place. Ceiling beam designs can be as broad as the interior spaces themselves.

I am creating a collection of ceiling beam photos for all different spaces to help you walk away inspired for your next home renovation project. And to incorporate that ceiling into your next design plan!

First on the list, this is a gorgeous traditional space. Unlike many ceilings we see, these beams are placed rather close together. They convey a confident design plan. The medium tone wood is pretty in place next to the dark trimmed windows and the charcoal upholstered furniture.

Next, reoccurring antique pieces are placed throughout the room, in multiple different living spaces. Because the ceilings are high, there is greater flexibility to placing these beams closer together without the sense that the ceiling is coming down on the living space.

Next is a lake-retreat family-room. Vast expanses of lake views appear in the distance through double walls of windows and vaulted ceilings. In a surprising case of exposed beams, everything is a happy fresh white on the ceiling.

Then, the oversized living space is divided into two different living areas, separated by a console table. This room is a gorgeous collection of earth tones, whites and crams and turquoise and golds. Medium wood tones and wicker and wool and stone are just a few of the many different materials that pull together a thrill to the senses.

Best Ceiling Beam Ideas: A Porch Ceiling Surprise

Onto the next example. I’m excited and I haven’t even walked through this front door! If this home owner took this much care to welcome guests from the front porch, what other surprises await inside?

Secondly, the raw wood bead-board, vaulted ceiling is a beautiful color component next to the bright white and black modern farmhouse exterior. Top that off with a fun modern black chandelier and exquisite seasonal, front-porch pots and the look is complete.

Impeccable. That is the first word that comes to mind for this space. We have white on white on white. YES, you can pull that off and not be boring. There are wonderful natural elements in the space and cream and gold and silver and chocolate velvet accent pillows.

Oh, and did we mention the ceiling is basic intersecting white beams? The perpendicular lines of the ceiling also coincide with the grid of the windows and doors and there is amazing rhythm and vibration in this space, without be overwhelming at all.

Blond Wood Beams and Matching Pendants and Bar Stools

Here, one central beam sits at the peak of the kitchen ceiling-space. And perpendicular beams meet at the top of the intersection. This all-white kitchen has used its final details to connect the decorative dots.

Basically, in a well thought out stroke of genius, the basket weave of the pendant lights, and the blonde wood bar stools and the finish of the exposed beams are all the same mid tone/ blonde wood. Layered on top of many different whites, this is a match made in heaven!

In this example, I don’t often see people’s homes decorated like this, but one can dream! I love how the entire ceiling is the same cool beige tone. Then, the drapes and the floor equally fall into that color category.

Lastly, the floor doesn’t feel redundant with the ceiling because the plank sizes are so different.

Fancy White Coffered Ceiling Kitchen

Now, you may look at a kitchen as stunning as this and think, I’m not sure we need any further detail added to the ceiling. That’s fair. But in this case, you just see it and say wow. And that’s about how I would describe coffered ceilings. Rarely do I ever think they take away from a space. Rather, they just make a space feel that much more grande and special.

Moving along, this is a really cool way to roughen up a space that may otherwise fall into the traditional category. But, adding these beautiful beams to the ceiling is just one more design detail that makes you say wow. And get this, they are faux beams! Ok, mad props to this designer. Not only is this a space that makes me stop in my tracks, but this was a DIY project of hers! (If you would like further information, follow the linkof the source on this photo).

Moreover, I am loving the two-tone color aspect of the ceiling. There are so many fun visuals in this office space, but it still does not overwhelm. Rather, the warm wood on the ceiling makes it feel more cozy.

Making Your Master Bedroom Cozy with Vaulted Ceiling Beams

Sometimes vaulted ceilings can be wonderful and airy, but other times we just want our space to feel more cozy. In this master bedroom, the tall ceiling comes closer to the floor by three redundant warm beams inserted into the vaulted space. I absolutely love every bit of the execution to this. This wood looks so lovely, I don’t know if it is faux or real.

Moving along, this room is fascinating to me. Tone on tone on tone. Tans and white are so calming to me and this space is a perfect example. Now, this ceiling is so fabulous and intriguing, you could put almost anything on the floor and I would still love the room just for the ceiling! Now that’s something to write home about 🙂

Rail Road Ties (Beams) on Ceiling in Kitchen

Ok, of all the ceiling beam ideas, the first time I saw this kitchen, I told myself I wanted it to be my next kitchen design. And what is one of the most fabulous parts of this kitchen? By far and away, it is the unique qualities of these rough beams that look like they have been salvaged from some old railroad tracks.

Traditionally, I don’t see 8.5′ ceilings and think that I want or need to add beams to the ceiling. But this space is the perfect example to show that this kitchen went from great to amazing though the addition of the ceiling design. Bravo!

On that same note, this space is impeccably pulled together and yet the ceilings are still probably just 8.5 feet tall. Again, I wouldn’t normally think I needed or wanted ceiling design, but I love every bit of it here.

So, in this room, I’m guessing they allowed the exposed beams to show instead of putting dry wall on top of them. (?) I could be wrong, but just a guess. Then, a central beam lays perpendicular to them and because everything is white, it doesn’t cause the ceiling to feel like its falling down onto the space. But instead, it brings a fun modern farmhouse vibe to the rest of the room.

A Tailored Coffered Ceiling

These beams are fancy in the sense that they have carved details on the edges. It elevates the aesthetic from being straight beams and gives the space a more tailored feel. The same way that every living space can differ in so many different ways, so can beams on ceilings. There are so many different interior ceiling designs to choose from!

Farmhouse On Top, Traditional On Bottom

Last but not least, this is a fun example to end on. This kitchen explodes with personality through the addition of these ceiling beams. The base of the kitchen island has delicate tapered legs that talk with the same stained wood of the built in storage credenza.

There are so many elements of traditional design in this kitchen, but to make it take on a more casual feel, the beams add another twist of character.

I hope this collection of the best ceiling beam photos has proven most helpful and convincing for the case to add ceiling beams to your next home project!
